Events being organised by the South West branch in 2008 & beyond.

All events - you should contact the organiser of the event or the SWOUGS Events Organiser beforehand for handouts, directions and any special arrangements.
This is especially important should the event get cancelled, if we don't know you're coming we can't contact you and you may get stood up in a wet windy car park miles from home.
Cancellations will be notified here and on the main home page under the 'stop press' if there is sufficient time. It is therefore worth checking these pages the night before a trip.

Monthly during the Year of Planet Earth Streatham and Tremough The Geography Department at Streatham and Tremough are running a series of free, public lectures. The first one kicks off at Tremough on the 1st May and will then be held approximately once a month, alternating between campuses. October 11th to 12th 2008 Isle of Portland A weekend trip, with limited numbers. Early booking is essential (maximum number is 15). Cost will be in the region of £100.00 to £120.00 Provisional Itinerary - Saturday [1]. Dinosaur Tracks at Stone Firms, Portland. [2]. Bowers Quarry - where we will view patch reefs and the mine. [3]. March 21st & 22nd 2009 Ogmore-by-Sea, Glamorgan A weekend trip - the geology of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast between Ogmore-by-Sea and Dunraven Bay. Gordon Neighbour will lead a weekend trip to investigate the geology looking at Carboniferous limestone and Triassic breccia and conglomerates on day one and investigating lower Jurassic sediments on day two. Remember you need suitable footwear and clothing, and your lunch and a hard hat. For quarry visits you must have a high visibility jacket (with the hard hat, very reasonably priced in DIY shops or builders' merchant).

Don't forget your hand lens, notebook and pencil, and your curiosity!

Insurance
Each person attending field meetings does so on the understanding that they attend at their own risk. The OUGS has Public Liability Insurance Cover for field and indoor meetings but Personal Accident cover and Personal Liability cover remain the responsibility of participants. Members with house insurance will probably find this included. Members should also note that they will be required to take out appropriate travel insurance for any overseas events; an annual travel insurance may be the best form of cover for any member who regularly attends field events.
