Members who request a password will be added to the members directory in the members only area.
When you login a temporary cookie is loaded to your web browser. Depending on how you have your security set you will probably get a pop-up panel where you select the 'YES' button to proceed. Some later versions of Internet Explorer running under XP put a banner along the top of the browser window instead. You have to click this, agree to allow the content and then fill in the login boxes again. Your browser may be set to save your details and fill them in for you at your next visit.

You will continue to have access to the members area even if you exit this site but then return in the same browser session. If and when you close your browser, the cookie is deleted (nice & tidy) and you will have to complete the login again for further access.
