| Description: |
These large ammonites were common in the late Jurassic and occur frequently in the upper beds of the belemnite marls. When these creatures died the body chamber rapidly filled with mud making these fossil moulds. The remainder of the shell was filled with air or water and as sediments quickly piled on top these parts were crushed flat and consequently only left paper thin impressions in the muds sometimes with the intact body chamber still in place. |
